on wednesday, i purchased my first fly rod (thank you dad for running that up to EP, much appreciated). immediately after work, i got together with joe to get the rod/reel setup and ready to hit the lake.
when we got on the lake, it was really too windy to make any serious first attempt at fly fishing, so we spent the majority of our evening switching between spinners and worms on standard fishing rods. i caught the northern pictured above almost immediately, but i wasn't in the lead for too long as joe quickly pulled ahead in the fish count.
just after sundown, the wind died down and i decided to give my fly rod a shot. it was a ton of fun, and as the fishing gods would have it, i caught my first fish on a fly rod on the first attempt! it was a small bass (shown above). as you can see, i was smiling from ear to ear. it was very gratifying.
then on cast number 3, i caught a small panfish.... two fish in about five minutes. good stuff.
i have much practice to do on my cast now. but joe has been a big help in getting me pointed in the right direction.
Yea! Can't wait to start cleanin' those pan fish! :)Congrats babe - I know you've been wanting to learn how to fly fish for some time.
ReplyDeletefun stuff. so happy for you.
