Green Baby Showers

The weekend of July 11th and 12th it rained and poured .... GREEN! On Saturday my mom Vicki and sister-in-law, Mela threw a lovely shower at my mom's home in Hastings. Many of my aunts and cousins were there as well as a few of the neighbor ladies I grew-up with. I was especially pleased that Shane's mom and grandma Winnie were able to join us.

On Sunday my good friends Nikki, Kristen and Tricia threw a second shower at Nikki's home. In attendance were high school friends, college friends, friends from my St.Paul and friends I've met through Shane. My good friend Suzanne even made the trip from Chicago with her son George. It's not often one gets to enjoy the company of so many different circle of friends all at the same time; it was a lovely day!

What I (and Shane) appreciated most about both of the showers was that everyone made a concerted effort to 'go green' with us. Early on in our pregnancy Shane and I agreed that we wanted to limit unnecessary baby buying that would result in simply accumulating too much stuff that would be used only briefly, not to mention all of the wasteful packaging. We opted to forgo a baby registry and, with the help of my mom, purhased USED, just about everything we needed to comfortably welcome our daughter into the world. Between Shane's friend Shannon and my friend Anna (and cloth diapers from craigslist) we were covered. My mom stored all of the green gear and invited friends and family to 'shop' at her house instead of buying new items. Now not only is our daugher entering the world WITHOUT a carbon footprint, she will be bundled in clothes and blankets that have been lovingly broken in by friends and family~

Thank you everyone for the beautiful showers, gifts and support. And most of all, thank you for joining us in our effort to limit our impact on this beautiful earth.
