the garden dialogues

so.... we had quite the journey leading up to the final product for our vegetable garden.  for over a month i was making plans for a multi-tiered garden bed built into the side of our small hill (on the north side of our house).  but literally days before i began the heavy landscaping work, we made a last minute call to scale down and go with a simpler raised garden bed placed at the top of the hill.

we are very excited about what we have for our first garden.  taking it slow was probably a good decision as no one in our family has much experience with growing vegetables.  this will allow us to ease into it slowly and focus on a smaller number of variables this first time around.

along with our garden, i decided to build a compost bin so that we can begin learning how to compost our food/yard scraps for use in our gardens in subsequent seasons.  this also turned out well, and found a nice home next to the boys' new "science lab" (a.k.a. backyard gazebo).

we're all very hopeful as our garden sees its grand opening this week, and what a beautiful week to be inaugurated!
