| From Trout Fishing - Trout Run-South Branch (Whitewater) |
joe and i took a couple days towards the end of september to wade in some of the better trout-filled streams of southern minnesota. we covered trout run one day, and the southern branch of the whitewater river on the other.
i learned more this time out than i can possibly summarize. having the extended time we did to fish and for joe to help instruct me was invaluable. we both did very well, and i caught most my fish while nymphing on this trip (as opposed to my previous catches which had all been top-water to date). nymphing involves sub-surface angling and requires a new level of skill, both in terms of hooking a trout and in casting. i had my trials, but also my successes.
by the end of this two-day outing, i had caught a total of 10 trout! joe, as before, caught too many to count (probably like 20-25).... that's why he's the master. :)
i couldn't have been more thrilled though. also, our second day was shaping up to be terrible in terms of weather, but we stepped into the stream with eyes wide open, and before we knew it, the day and the weather turned out to be absolutely fantastic.
the trout season sadly ended september 30th, so there won't be any more trout fishing until january 1st :)
