the name of this post is in jest. for some reason, when i refer to "fly tying" i have a habit of saying "ty flying"...... i believe there's a ten cent word for this phenomenon, but it escapes me.... (this last sentence is an example of one that any good writer would tell you to redact in the final "version" as it is almost completely unrelated to the point of this post, including this sentence as well i guess).
anyway, fly tying.
i had my first experience tying flies last night with joe, who once again kindly took me under his wings (cheesy pun), to help mentor me in this intricate art of tying fly patterns....
it makes me a geek in a whole new way i'm sure to conclude that i had a blast. our night was reminiscent of the days when i was building model airplanes from scratch in my basement as a young boy (with my father some of the time <-- that was added here for my dad who wrote me to make sure he got some cred for spending time in the dungeon with me.... and no, joe, that does not mean in retrospect that i'm comparing you to my father.... hmm... i can see why law books fill libraries.... language is so inefficient....).
i owe ryan perrizo a big thank you for purchasing for me some of the beginning materials needed to engage this activity. without that christmas present, i probably would not have started this early.
i feel like i've taken yet another step early in my fly fishing career towards further legitimization (is that a word?) when stepping into the stream... i cannot wait to go fishing this weekend to attempt to catch my first trout on a personally tied fly.
thanks again joe.
